YELLOW RIBBON PROGRAM

Recently, news coverage from 2011 of Colorado State University’s participation in the Yellow Ribbon program has resurfaced on social media. This is a clarification of the benefits of the Yellow Ribbon program and scholarship support for veterans at CSU.

At Colorado State University we work with veterans to use their Yellow Ribbon benefits, the Post 9-11 GI Bill, as well as university financial support, to cover many of the costs of studying at CSU, including the full cost of tuition for both resident and non-resident qualifying veteran students. In addition, Post 9-11 GI Bill benefits help cover the cost of housing and provides a book stipend. Veterans may also be eligible for CSU scholarships which could be used to pay for books and other educational expenses. The Yellow Ribbon program is a cost-share program with the Department of Veterans Affairs and universities that covers out-of-state tuition for Post 9-11 GI Bill benefit users.

In order to participate in Yellow Ribbon, students must be eligible for Post 9-11 GI Bill benefits at 100 percent, must be using the benefits, and must be enrolled as an undergraduate student.

In addition to generous Yellow Ribbon participation, CSU offers a variety of scholarships for veterans and families, and world-class veterans services. Because of these and other efforts, Military Times lists CSU at number four among public colleges and universities on it’s national 2017 “Best for Vets” ranking.
